The Perfect Game, a feature film based on an extraordinary true story about the 1957 Monterrey Industrial Little League Baseball team will make its debut in an exclusive screening at the Little League International Congress on Saturday, March 13 at 8 p.m. in Lexington, Ky. at the Lexington Convention Center.
The Perfect Game hits theatres on April 16 and centers on the first International team to win the Little League World Series in 1957 -- a feat it repeated the following year.
“We are very excited to bring this film first and foremost to the Little League International Congress,” U.S. distributor Richard Ham said. “A passion for baseball and a high regard for the Little League organization inspired these kids from Monterrey and brought them to the championship. We are pleased to share their story with this truly international institution.”
"This is one of the most inspiring ‘underdog’ stories. We were amazed that this story had never been told by Hollywood before,” Producer David Salzberg said. "We think The Perfect Game embodies all of the great values that Little League provides to young boys and girls throughout the world such as team work, courage, determination, and fair play. To be able to tell one of the all time great Little League stories is a real honor."
Living amidst the gritty poverty of 1957 Monterrey, Mexico, a rag–tag group of boys from the wrong side of the tracks discovers the joy of sandlot baseball under the guidance of Cesar, an aspiring Major League Coach thwarted by discrimination.
Armed with the dream of playing a real Little League game, the young players defy a total lack of resources, disapproving parents, and widespread prejudice to score their first Little League victory and find themselves at the beginning of a once-in-a-lifetime journey.
Relying on their faith, a warm-hearted priest and their love of the game, the nine players and their coach embark on an incredible, record-breaking winning streak that takes them across the border to America, and all the way to the 1957 Little League World Series where a miracle will cement their place in history and change their lives forever.
Many of the culminating scenes in the movie were filmed at Little League’s Western Region Headquarters in San Bernardino, Calif.
The Perfect Game features Clifton Collins Jr., Cheech Marin, Emilie de Ravin, and rising stars Jake T. Austin (Wizards of Waverly Place), Moises Arias (Hannah Montana), Jansen Panettiere (The X’s) and Ryan Ochoa (iCarly, Pair of Kings), as well as Patricia Manterola, and Louis Gosset Jr.
The Perfect Game was written by W. William Winokur and directed by William Dear (Angels in the Outfield, The Sandlot 3).
